Nauvoo to Nazareth is a personal blog written under the pen name Restless Pioneer. This policy explains how information is collected and used when you visit nauvootonazareth.com, leave a comment, send a message, or subscribe to email updates.
Information you choose to provide
Contact messages. The Contact form asks for your name, email address, and message. Messages are processed through WordPress/Jetpack and delivered to the blog’s Google Workspace email inbox; copies may also be stored in the website’s form-response system and backups. Messages are not published as blog comments. They are used to respond to your message and manage the correspondence. Please share only information you are comfortable sending, and avoid unnecessary sensitive details about yourself or other people.
Comments. If you comment, the site processes your comment and the identifying information you provide, such as your display name, email address, and optional website or account information. Your comment, display name, and any associated public profile image or website link may appear publicly. Your email address is not displayed as part of the public comment. Technical information, including IP address and browser information, may be collected for operation and spam prevention. Comments can appear without prior manual review, although automated spam checks may still apply.
Email subscriptions. WordPress.com/Jetpack processes your email address, subscription status, and associated technical information to manage subscriptions, send confirmation and welcome messages, and deliver new-post notifications. Subscription and email interaction statistics, such as opens or link clicks, may be available through the provider; email privacy features can affect their accuracy. You can unsubscribe using the link in a subscription email. Sending a contact message or leaving a comment does not, by itself, mean you have asked to receive new-post emails.
Information collected automatically
The site and its service providers process technical and usage information to deliver pages, protect the site, and understand readership. Depending on the service and your interactions, this can include IP address, browser and device information, referring page, pages visited, search terms, dates and times, approximate location, and interactions with links or site features.
Google Analytics. The site uses Google Analytics through Google Site Kit to measure readership and use of the site. Google’s tag loads on public pages and can use cookies and similar identifiers. Information can include pages visited, device/browser information, referral information, and interaction data. Google processes this information under its policies and the property’s settings. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Jetpack statistics. WordPress.com/Jetpack also measures site visits and interactions. These statistics help the author understand readership; existing Jetpack article-view statistics are also used by the Articles page’s Popular sorting option. See WordPress.com’s statistics information.
Cookies, Likes, and third-party features
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses services that may set or read cookies or similar technologies for functions such as signing in, remembering comment preferences, subscriptions, Likes, security, and analytics. Some cookies depend on whether you are signed into WordPress.com or interact with a feature. Google Analytics cookies, for example, can include names beginning with _ga. Cookie names and lifetimes can change with provider settings.
Jetpack Likes, Gravatar profile images, WordPress.com comment or login features, and image-delivery services can connect your browser to Automattic’s servers. Using a social sharing link takes you to the selected platform, which handles information under its own policies. Other websites linked from articles have their own privacy practices.
You can block or remove cookies through your browser settings, although some interactive features may stop working. Google also offers an Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Automattic describes its cookies and available controls in its Cookie Policy.
The site does not currently provide an on-site Accept/Reject cookie selector, and its Google Analytics tag is not currently held until a visitor makes a consent selection. The site does not currently change its analytics loading in response to a browser’s Do Not Track signal. Browser blocking settings and provider controls are separate from an on-site consent choice.
Service providers and disclosure
Information is processed by providers used to operate the blog, including WordPress.com/Automattic and Jetpack for hosting and site features, Akismet for spam screening, Gravatar for profile images, Google Analytics for measurement, and Google Workspace for email correspondence. Akismet can process submitted comments or form information and associated technical data to identify spam. Providers may process information in the United States and other countries.
For more detail, read Automattic’s notice for visitors to its users’ sites, Akismet’s privacy information, and Google’s Privacy Policy. Each provider’s own processing, retention, and controls are described in its notices.
Information may also be disclosed when necessary to comply with a legal obligation, respond to a lawful request, or protect the site and its users. This blog does not offer a mailing list or contact-message database for sale. Processing by the services described above should not be understood as a promise that no information is disclosed to third parties.
How long information is kept
Published comments generally remain with the article unless removed. Contact messages and related correspondence may remain in the site’s form records, email inbox, and backups until deleted. Subscription records are maintained by WordPress.com/Jetpack; unsubscribing stops future subscription emails but may not immediately erase all related records. Analytics, security, spam, and backup data follow the relevant service’s settings and retention practices. There is no single automatic deletion period that applies to all information collected through this site.
Your choices and privacy requests
You can read the blog without submitting a contact message, posting a comment, or subscribing. To ask about information you have provided, request access, correction, or deletion, or raise a privacy concern, use the Contact page or email [email protected]. Include enough information to identify the relevant message, comment, or subscription, but do not send identity documents unless specifically needed and requested.
Requests will be considered under applicable law and the information and controls available to the site owner. Identity verification may be needed. Some records may need to be retained for security or legal reasons, may remain temporarily in backups, or may be controlled directly by a provider. Public comments may also have been copied or indexed elsewhere. For information associated with your separate WordPress.com or Google account, you may need to contact that provider directly.
Children and policy updates
This blog is intended for a general adult readership, not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through this site, please contact the author so the situation can be reviewed and appropriate action taken.
This policy may be updated as the site’s features or practices change. The date above identifies the latest update.
